Newport fuel filling station

New Build - Leeds Skelton Lake MSA

We were engaged by the client at planning stage to assist in the development of the Fuel Filling Station element of their new Motorway Service Area in Leeds. Joining the project at planning stage, we were able to develop a design which worked with the site and met the client’s needs. We assisted the client in tendering for a design and build contractor and provided client monitoring services for the construction stage.

project types new build

Ingleton Wood have worked with clients to deliver a large number of “new to market” Fuel Filling Station sites. Working from site identification, feasibility study and concept stages through to handover and completion,we help clients to deliver a large number of new sites ranging from small 3 pump sites to large Motorway Services Areas. knock down and rebuild Sometimes an existing filling station requires wholesale reconstruction either in situ or in an alternative optimised location. We work with our clients to assess the constraints, opportunities and requirements for the new design in order to develop a scheme within the existing location, or in a new location if required. Where sites are relocated we can also assist in the demolition and re-purposing of the existing site. refurbishments Over the years the requirements of a filling station can change. We work with clients to deliver a large number of refurbishment projects. Ranging from simple rebranding packages to large building extensions and re-tanks. We assist our clients in carrying out a detailed review of their needs in order to deliver optimised solutions within the confines of the existing site.

Knock Down and Rebuild - Michaelwood Services

As part of the redevelopment of the Michaelwood Motorway Services Area we were employed to carry out the construction design and project management for the relocation of Fuel Filling Station sites on both the Northbound and Southbound sides of the M5 motorway. The works also included the demolition of the previous sites which were turned into additional parking space.

Refurbishments - Horley

Following acquisition of this site by our client from a different operator, we developed a refurbishment scheme that would bring it up to their business and brand standards. As part of the works, the forecourt was extended from 3 to 5 pumps, and the shop was extended to form a convenience offer.

Temporary Fuel Filling Station - Monks Cross

Arriving on site 2 weeks before the proposed redevelopment, the unit is ready to open on the morning after the shut-down of the main Fuel Filling Station. The site operates for the full works period, providing an alternative refuelling location for customers. It is closed the night before the reopening of the refurbished Fuel Filling Station and removed over a period of 2 weeks. The site is returned to car parking/landscaping.

innovation - new formats We combine our unrivalled technical experience with fresh design thinking to achieve unique solutions and to provide best value for our clients, such as in the temporary fuel filling station, small format FFS and our work in sustainable design solutions and alternative, cleaner fuels. temporary fuel filling stations This short-term solution was developed to provide continuity of trade during the environmental upgrade of a primary FFS. The proposal consists of two 80k litre tanks, providing two fuel grades and supported by portable manned kiosks. The success of the original installation led to the FFS being relocated to many other refurbishment and redevelopment sites, delivering a large percentage of the original FFS capacity in each case. small format fuel filling station We developed a design for the first small format (3-pump) FFS for Sainsbury’s. The design, which was delivered at a number of locations provided the client with a fuel offer at sites that were too space poor for a standard FFS provision. The format is designed to sit in small areas of landscaping at the edge of a site, or within existing car parking but requiring as few parking spaces as possible. The FFS design facilitates remote monitoring to operate as an unmanned facility, reducing costs to the store. above ground tanks Not all Fuel Filling Station sites are suitable for below ground tanks for a variety of reasons. We work closely with clients to assess the site requirements and identify the most suitable solution within the site constraints, budget and the need to make site operations safe and simple.

Small Format - Livingston

We carried out a car park utilisation study at Livingston Sainsbury’s in Scotland to determine if a new Fuel Filling Station was viable. The site was limited in space with car parking fully utilised at peak periods. This determined that a small format FFS was the optimum solution. The 3-pump, unmanned FFS was installed over an 8-week period by adjusting the access road and removing only 31 parking bays.

Above Ground Tanks

As part of a knock down and relocation of an existing Fuel Filling Station site it was a requirement of the EA for the client to install an above ground tank solution. This 9 pump site was the first above ground system for the client, and, working alongside the EA, Planners and local fire authority, we were able to deliver a scheme which met the needs of the customers and client whilst protecting local water courses and habitats.

Hydrogen Fuel Filling Station

Following a grant from Transport For London, a number of Hydrogen refuelling sites were constructed by AirProducts. One site, in conjunction with Sainsbury’s was earmarked to act as a public site to promote the use of Hydrogen. Acting as architects and project managers we provided a full design service, also integrating the existing on-site Fuel Filling Station. We worked closely with the London Fire Brigade to develop new licensing and approved standards for this type of site.

innovation - alternative fuels UK government has set challenging targets for the fuel industry to transition toward a low-carbon model. Ingleton Wood have consistently worked alongside our fuel provider clients to support the delivery of advanced fuel, and alternative/low-carbon solutions, such as our Hydrogen Charging site and our work with Electric Charging concepts. hydrogen fuel filling stations We delivered the first public retail hydrogen station together with our client Air Products, at Sainsbury’s supermarket in Hendon. This 700-bar SmartFuel station delivered a 3-minute full refuel and formed part of the London Hydrogen Network Expansion project, supported by UK Government and co-funded by Innovate UK. electric charging Working collaboratively with clients since 2018, Ingleton Wood have developed concept proposals for the installation of more than 300 fast-charging sites within existing roadside retail settings across the UK. Using our knowledge of fuel retailing we have developed designs for a charging station model that can be manufactured off-site and distributed nationally.

Electric Charging

With the world progressing towards zero- and low- carbon solutions, we are increasingly working alongside clients active in renewable fuels to develop new ways to power vehicles and protect the environment. Working with EV Network we have developed a charging concept that can be adapted to multi-storey car parks, roadside sites, food-retail car-parks and traditional Fuel Filling Station sites.

sustainable design solutions Ingleton Wood work in collaboration with clients to continuously improve the environmental performance of Fuel Filling Stations by deploying existing and innovative technologies, such as recycled and sustainably-sourced materials, zero-carbon power and recycled water. timber kiosk We secured industry approval for the first full timber kiosk solution. The kiosk structure is cross-laminated timber (CLT) panel construction which provides a renewable, sustainable alternative to steel. solar canopy We developed the first solar FFS canopy in collaboration with Sainsbury’s. PV cells were installed within the steel structure of the forecourt canopy, supplying electricity to the station and reducing energy consumption from the grid. eco fuel filling station We have combined these strategies with other sustainable solutions to achieve a holistic response for our Eco- Fuel Filling Station concept. Our target was to reduce energy use and water consumption to achieve a zero- carbon station using multiple solutions, including: • Photo-voltaic cells; supply power to the FFS • Rainwater harvesting; for use in WC and car wash facilities • Sun-tubes; to remove artificial lighting need • LED lights, linked to intelligent light monitoring • Heat exchangers to recover waste heat and reduce energy demand
